U.S. Senators Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) and Edward J. Markey (D-MA) have re-introduced the revised Community Access Preservation Act (the CAP Act) in Congress. This year's CAP Act includes two new provisions. One is the ability to get High Definition or advanced technology channels and the other is the ability to have PEG programming on the cable operator’s Electronic Program Guide! The text of the revised version of this bill is available at this link
S.1244 - Community Access Preservation Act
SEATOA is proud to have been a part of the consortium of interested groups who joined with American Community Television (ACT) in their efforts to re-introduce this legislation. And SEATOA awarded this year’s Legislator-of-the-Year Advocacy Awards to Senators Baldwin and Markey to thank them for their continued efforts in attempts to pass this important legislation.
Community Access agencies need to get their users involved. Whether it's the police department, the fire department, educational organizations, nonprofits, religious groups or individuals, we need to have the people who use Public-Educational-Government (PEG) access channels to call their Congressional Representatives and let them know they support PEG access television.
But this is just the beginning! Now we need everyone to contact their Representatives and ask them to support the CAP Act – S. 1244. You can simply pick up the phone and call the U.S. Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121. Talking points on this legislation are available on ACT’s website via this link
